The expansion of scientific, technical and economic activity on an international scale, has created an increasing demand on learning English not for pleasure but because English is the key to technology and commerce.

The demand for English courses tailored to specific needs is rapidly growing in areas such as:

  • law
  • medicine
  • finance
  • aviation
  • the automobile & automotive industry
  • travel & tourism
  • human resources
  • technical English
  • military & peacekeeping

  • and many many more.

In order to help English language trainers keep up-to-date with the latest developments and trends in ESP including students’ and companies’ specific needs, we would like to invite you to the

    ESP Conference 2009

No one can deny need of ESP in present circumstances. Every field has different needs and requirements in learning English. The things that are essential for a field might not be worthy to learn for others. Different fields require different communication skills, which also require mastery of different linguistic item e.g. specialized and specific vocabulary, register, functions of that specific field of activity. For example, the vocabulary and register of Medical would be different to that of engineering, the functions of a teacher would be different to that of a doctor, and the needs of a business student would be different to that of a student of literature. Every profession has different needs, and to meet with needs of all those, we need ESP. This is to teach them English according to their specific needs and requirements.

Being a lecturer at Agriculture University, I highly realize the need of ESP for agriculture students particularly and for all fields generally. I’m also student of TEFL and my final thesis is also on ESP. That is why I am keen to attend this ESP conference so as to learn & equip myself with precious knowledge of ESP for different fields through this conference.
